Dear Mustang Families:
Thank you to Ms. MacGougan, teachers, and our many parent volunteers who helped to support over 230 students attending the ‘National Geographic Field Trip’. We couldn’t do this without parental and staff support.
This past Thursday night was also magical with Ms. Armstrong (Band), Ms. MacLennan (Art), Mr. Marinucci (Drama), Ms. Hudson and Ms. Ralph (Leadership) showcasing the Fine Arts accomplishments of your children. We look forward to this becoming an annual event!
On Tuesday, we are transitioning back to in-person School Council meetings. Please join us at the school for the 6:30pm – 8:00pm meeting. Doors open at 6:15pm. Babysitting will be provided for families with small children. Parents will support bathroom breaks. We look forward to welcoming you back into the school.
The last day for parents to offer input into our School Development Plan (SDP) and Fees is quickly approaching- SJAM Parent Survey on SDP and Fees (7-10 minutes). Due by March 31, 2024. Thank you for your feedback.
Parent/Guardian-Student-Teacher Conferences (March 21-22)
There are still a few places for families to sign up using your MyCBE with four categories:
- Core (ELA, Social Studies, Math and Science): in-person appointments on March 21
- Core (ELA, Social Studies, Math and Science): online appointments on March 22
- Complementary/Options and PE: in-person appointments on March 21
- Complementary/Options and PE: online appointments on March 22
When booking a conference appointment, please double check that you are selecting your child’s teacher from the drop-down menu. Please note that core teachers are paired together. If you would like to book an appointment with an individual core teacher regarding Complementary/Options and PE courses taught by them, please reach out to them directly rather than booking an appointment using the conference app. Teacher contact information can be found on the school website staff page.
Mr. Rachid (morachid@cbe.ab.ca) offers excellent support if you are having difficulties signing up.
With interviews, students will stay at home on Friday. You may be interested in pre-planning Spring Break activities given there is no school from Friday March 22 until students return on Tuesday April 2. Here are a few helpful websites:

Mustang of the Week
Congratulations to Ms. Connie H. (98)! She is a leader with the school Yearbook Crew and has volunteered to keep score at the volleyball games all season long. In the classroom, Connie volunteers to help others, asks good questions when she needs clarity and invests time to be well prepared for summative learning. Your leadership inside and outside the classroom is noticed and valued Connie!
Athletics Update
Mr. Jones (sdjones@cbe.ab.ca)
Volleyball playoffs occurred this past week with three of our four team’s seasons sadly ending. It was a great season for the Sr Boys, Jr Girls and Sr Girls. The Jr Boys play their semifinal playoff game on Monday at Queen Elizabeth School. Good luck Boys! With this being the last week of volleyball for our division, huge thanks need to be extended to all your children who represent our school. We hope they had fun, learned a lot about themselves and the game of volleyball and made some lasting relationships. Big thanks to you, the parents/guardians, for getting your children to the games and practices. It is a big job, and we appreciate your efforts. But perhaps more so, big thanks to our volunteer coaches for their time and commitment to better your children. Please feel free to extend your gratitude in your own way to Ms. Dawson and Ms. Saker (Jr Girls), Ms Zakus and Ms. Vahaaho (Jr Boys), Mr Shelestynsky (Sr Girls) and Mr. Boivin and Ms. Isackson (Sr Boys).
Badminton will begin the first week back after spring break. We are still confirming tryouts specifics but here are the coaches and the likely practice schedule for the season to help with your planning.
Schedules can also be found on the bulletin board across from the PE office and online in our SJAM Athletic Center.
Community Events
Free City of Calgary event for your children: Saturday March 23 (1:00pm – 3:00pm) You must sign up beforehand: Youth Event. No CBE Staff will be on site.
The Alberta Ministry of Children and Family Services is running a family violence prevention public awareness campaign on social media and other platforms during the month of March. The campaign promotes calling, texting or chatting with the Family Violence Info Line to survivors and bystanders of family violence. Whether reaching out for themselves or on behalf of someone they care about, people often feel scared and don’t know what to do. Our goal is to increase awareness that help is available, and to connect Albertans impacted by family violence to supports and services. Please see link for various programs from the Alberta Government: Family Violence Prevention links
