SJAM Weekly Newsletter

Week At A Glance:  May 25 - 29, 2026

Dear Mustang Families,

Please forward this message to your child’s email.

Deep gratitude it extended to our dedicated 2025-26 School Council members:

  • Chairperson/President: Michelle Wood
  • Treasurer: Jennifer Razzo
  • Secretary: Laurie Leier
  • Volunteer Coordinator: Hope Lewis

Our students, faculty and the SJAM learning community benefit greatly from the many initiatives led by this talented and committed Council.  'Together, we make a difference' is brought to life by these four hard working parents in our community.  On behalf of 650 students and families, we thank them for their year of service.

We are incredibly proud of our Grade 7, 8, and 9 students, who demonstrated focus, perseverance, and commitment during their Language Arts summative assessment (Grade 9 PAT; Grade 7 and 8 ‘practice’ PAT) on Thursday. They approached this important learning task with maturity and effort, and it was wonderful to see students apply their skills with such determination.  Please join us in recognizing the hard work and dedication your children showed.  We know this experience reflects both their growth as learners and their ongoing development as thoughtful, capable individuals.

sincere apology is extended to the 40 Grade 9 students who experienced delays while Alberta Education worked to resolve issues preventing access to Vretta, the secure online exam environment for their PAT.  We commend the impacted students for their patience and understanding as Mr. K and Mr. Hoblak took the necessary steps to ensure everyone was able to log in and complete their test digitally.  We share in the hope that this issue will be resolved moving forward and will not occur again.

For Grade 9 students interested in free tutoring support for PAT preparation, the YMCA’s Homework Helpers tutors are available. Please see the attached flyer for full details:  YMCA Homework Helpers PAT Grade 9 Schedule.  The main update is that on Tuesdays and Thursdays, instead of offering hour-long, subject-specific workshops, YMCA tutors will be providing “supported study” sessions. During these sessions, students can bring their own work and receive help with any questions or areas they need support in.  In essence, these sessions will follow the familiar Homework Helpers format, but will be tailored specifically to support Grade 9 students as they prepare for their PATs.
