Dear Mustang Families

Happy Father’s Day to our community!  We also recognize some of us benefit from leadership by a loved one who acts as a surrogate father – honor these individuals today too. Research shows the crucial role Fathers (or significant adults) play in their children's lives, significantly impacting their social, emotional, and cognitive development. Your involvement, characterized by presence, support, and guidance, contributes to your child's overall well-being and success.  Thank you for offering important stabilization during your children’s adolescence.  If you are still looking for ideas on what to do today, please check out these links: Calgary Herald Summary or Family Fun for Fathers Day.  Enjoy creating lifelong memories together!

Forest fire smoke across Alberta led to the cancellation of our track meet this past Wednesday. We join our student athletes in being disappointed given their ongoing commitment to their physical and mental well-being.  Thank you to our Coaches for striving to get the athletes ready, alongside Mr. O’Lain who chaired the SJAM Track team:

ALP/PLP:  Ms. Roston

Sprints: Ms. Dawson & Ms. McLellan

Distance: Ms. MacPhee & Mr. Parsons

High Jump: Mr. O'Lain & Ms. Bartley

Long Jump: Ms. Saker & Ms. MacLennan

Shot Put: Mr. Shelestynsky & Ms. Howe

Discus: Mr. Jones & Ms. Howe

Mother Nature didn’t cooperate, but our student athletes were ready to go!  Thank you to the many parent volunteers who stepped up to support the day as well.

This might be an alternative your child would enjoy participating in (CBE Staff are not present):  All Sport One Day is a fantastic, free sport discovery event designed specifically for children and youth aged 6 to 17. It offers a unique opportunity for young participants to try out a new sport or physical activity in a fun and supportive environment.  Whether your child is curious about learning a new skill or simply eager to get active, this event is an excellent way to introduce them to the world of sports without any financial commitment. By participating, kids can explore different sports, discover their interests, and potentially find a new passion, all while making new friends and staying active.  All Sport One Day 2025 will be held on Saturday, June 21 and Saturday, Aug. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Follow @SportCalgary on social media or sign-up for their newsletter for updates!

Soup Sisters served chicken noodle soup and corn chowder this past Thursday.  It is amazing how a hot bowl of soup yields so many positive memories.  Thank you to Ms. Dawson, her leadership students and the Soup Sister organization for nourishing the Mustang community with a universal comfort food.

PATs will continue this week:  please see schedule in the calendar.  On Wednesday June 25, report cards will be visible to families.  If you would like a printed version, please email Ms. Reynolds (sareynolds@cbe.ab.ca) or ask your child to come into the main office starting on June 25th.  In The Calgary Board of Education (CBE), assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Assessment includes a continuous cycle of instruction, gathering and interpreting evidence from a variety of sources and responsively adjusting teaching practice. Assessment practices aim to improve student engagement in learning and to elicit evidence that accurately represents what each student knows and can do in relation to the intended learning goals.  We join each family wanting each student to be successful.  The upcoming report card offers parents and students a sense of how your child’s learning has progressed over the school year:
