Dear Mustang Families
May you enjoy the Victoria Day Weekend with your loved ones. School will be closed tomorrow to recognize the national holiday. This article provides some activity ideas including Bob Bahan, Killarny and Thornhill leisure centres will be open on Victoria Day with special hours, offering free public swimming from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 2 to 4:30 p.m. All other leisure centres will be closed on the holiday.
Our School Council Executive would like to invite you to their last meeting of the year on Tuesday May 20 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm in the school library. At the AGM (Annual General Meeting), an executive will be selected for 2025-26. If you would like to have an active role in the school, and work with Administration, you are welcome to attend. If you have any questions, please email | sjam.council@gmail.com. Over the past school year, your children have benefited greatly from the leadership of so many school volunteers (field trips, fun lunches) as well as this strong team of parents:
Chairperson: Rose Llewellyn
Co-Chair: Michelle Wood
Treasurer: Jennifer Razzo
Secretary: Kara Payne
Volunteer Coordinator: Hope Crystal-Lewis
Key Communicator: Rose Llewellyn and Michelle Wood
On behalf of all our students and staff, thank-you Rose, Michelle, Jennifer, Kara and Hope! We invite every parent to consider joining the team too.
Gentle Reminder: Join us for an evening celebrating student creativity on Thursday May 22 for the Fine Arts and CTF Showcase (5:30 – 7:00 pm)! Artwork will be on display in the Learning Commons, band students will perform, drama students will present short skits, and CTF courses will showcase student projects. Parents and guardians are welcome.
Just a friendly reminder from the school library that all library books need to be returned by June 6th, 2025. Parents and guardians, please encourage your students to check at home for any library books they may have and bring them back. Thank you for a fantastic school year. Wishing everyone a wonderful summer! – Ms. Campbell.
Leadership: Ms. Hudson and Ms. Ralph
Thank you again to everyone who participated in our spring pep rally. The grand total for our Prep Society Fundraiser was $742.20. A shout out to the student fundraisers who helped us more than double our $300 goal alongside our brave teachers who were willing to get ice watered for this great cause!
The SJAM Administration would also like to recognize Ms. Hudson. Her last day of 2024-25 will be Tuesday because Ms. Hudson is going on a leave. Her dedication to every leadership activity and the program is exceptional. Creativity, compassion, care and conscientious are four of the core attributes Ms. Hudson exemplifies in her teaching practice. Given it is very difficult to hire someone as strong as Ms. Hudson, Ms. Ralph will be assuming the leadership teaching role full time to finish the school year. Thank you to Ms. Hudson for her commitment to growing the Mustang culture!
Athletics: Mr. Jones
Congratulations to all badminton players for their outstanding efforts this past week at their divisional tournament. The coaches reported that our athletes represented SJAM very well in their conduct and performance. Huge thanks to Mr. Manery, Ms. Vahaaho, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Dougan, Ms. Greenham and Ms. Hopley for their generous donation of time away from their own families. SJAM is very fortunate to have the selfless staff that we do.
Track and Field tryouts continue this week. We welcome any encouragement you can provide to your children to take some healthy risks and try something that perhaps they have never done before. Please note due to the weather, schedules may be altered. We apologize as we will try to keep the kids up to date. We appreciate your understanding. The track schedule can be found here. Guidelines on the Mustang tryout process are in detail at this link.
