Good afternoon, SJAM Families!
It has been another fantastic week at Sir John A. Macdonald School, filled with learning, connection, and school spirit.
Welcome Back Dance Success!
A huge thank you to all of our students who attended the Welcome Back Dance on Friday evening. The event was filled with energy, laughter, and plenty of Mustang spirit. It was wonderful to see students connecting with friends, having fun, and building a strong sense of community.
A special shout-out goes to Ms. Ralph's Leadership class, who did an outstanding job organizing and running the event. Their hard work, creativity, and leadership helped make the evening such a success.
If your child was unable to attend this dance, don't worry. We have more school dances and fun events planned throughout the year, and there will be plenty of opportunities to join in the fun!
Orange Shirt Day and Truth & Reconciliation
Over the coming days, students will continue their learning about Orange Shirt Day during Homeroom. These important conversations help deepen students' understanding of the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools while encouraging reflection, empathy, and reconciliation.
Orange Shirt Day will be recognized at SJAM on Tuesday, September 29.
Please note that there will be no school on Wednesday, September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Picture Day
It's almost picture time! School Picture Day is Thursday, October 1. Students are encouraged to come looking their best and ready to smile for the camera.
Grade 9 Career Exploration in Kananaskis
On Thursday, a group of Grade 9 students had the opportunity to attend an exciting outdoor career exploration event at the Jumpingpound Demonstration Forest in Kananaskis.
Students learned from women working in a variety of outdoor professions, including ranching, wildfire firefighting, forestry, hydrology, and environmental sciences. They participated in hands-on activities such as designing reclaimed forests, trying firefighting equipment, and exploring what it takes to be a hydrogeologist.
It was an engaging and inspiring day that opened students' eyes to the many career opportunities available in Alberta's outdoor and environmental sectors.
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found is currently overflowing! We have accumulated a large collection of items, including clothing, water bottles, shoes, backpacks, lunch bags, and other personal belongings.
Throughout the week, we will be displaying these items for students to look through and claim. We also welcome families to stop by and check the Lost and Found if they believe their child may be missing something.
We would love to reunite as many items as possible with their owners. Any unclaimed items remaining at the end of the week will be donated or recycled, so we encourage students and families to take a look before then.
