Truth and Reconciliation Commitment
At Sir John A. Macdonald School, our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation is an important part of creating a school community where every student experiences belonging, connection, and success. Our 2026–27 commitment focuses on learning alongside Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers to strengthen connections to language, culture, community, and learning, while also ensuring Indigenous students have access to responsive and targeted literacy and numeracy supports that honour identity and promote belonging.
This commitment is woven into our School Development Plan. As we work to improve student achievement in literacy and well-being, we recognize that academic success cannot be separated from relationships, identity, culture, and a sense of belonging. Our TRC commitment strengthens this work by ensuring that our approaches to intervention and instruction are culturally responsive and that Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and belonging are meaningfully reflected in the learning experiences we provide. In this way, Truth and Reconciliation is not a separate initiative at SJAM—it is part of how we build an inclusive school community and pursue improved outcomes for every student.
