Dear Mustang Families:
Please forward this weekly message to your child's personal email! We have also started posting these messages on our website.
Our Grade 9 Farewell plans are underway with three events for our students and families:
Wednesday May 1: The inaugural CBE Round Dance for Grade 9 Indigenous students transitioning to high school (5:00 pm to 8:00 pm) at Ernest Manning High School. Personalized invitations sent by Ms. Bethany.
Monday June 24: Moh-kins-tsis and Calgary Zoo Field Trip - Due to the generosity of an ‘Education Matters’ donor, a grant is fully covering the cost of this Grade 9 learning adventure for our Grade 9 students:
- Moh-kin-stsis: students will visit where the Elbow meets the Bow River to learn about the importance of this area to indigenous culture, visit Fort Calgary and test water quality.
- Calgary Zoo: students will explore biodiversity.
Field trip forms will be sent out closer to the event.
Wednesday June 26: Mark your calendars! Families are invited to a short program, starting at 6:00 pm, followed by a dance for Grade 9 students. To keep costs low for families, this is not considered a formal event. Additional details will be shared in the weeks ahead.
Leadership Update
Ms. Hudson and Ms. Ralph (nahudson@cbe.ab.ca; ledawson@cbe.ab.ca)
- Thank you to all the staff and students who showed up in costume for Known Figure Day. You looked great! A special shout out to our Grade 7 Leadership class for taking on this fun spirit day!
- May 2 is our last dance of the year from 5:00-7:30. Come to school in your finest western gear and get ready to dance the night away! Tickets are $4 and will be on sale in the main foyer April 29, April 30 and May 1 at lunch and after school. As always, students support the privilege of having school dances by following the Student Code of Conduct. Hope to see everyone out!
- May 3 (in lieu of Sunday, May 5) is Red Dress Day where we remember and honour missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples. Grade 7 students have been working to create a bulletin board to recognize this important day. Thank you to Pearl White Quills and Ms. Bethany for helping us learn how to bead red dresses for our board. Students are encouraged to wear red to school on Friday, May 3.
- May 8 is Hats on for Mental Health. Wear your favourite hat to support this great initiative
- May 16 is our spring pep rally. Several (great sport) teachers have volunteered to be ‘pied’ at this event to raise money for Mustard Seed. Next week, you will see Leadership students set up in the foyer at lunch and after school raising money to donate to this amazing foundation.
