Dear Mustang Families:

Please forward this weekly message to your child's personal email! We have also started posting these messages on our website.

As we move forward to the end of the year, our summer newsletter will be posted and shared on June 26. We will focus on the year end for the next few weeks. Note: Please use MyCBE to see the most current academic standing in classes. Due to report card entry, some features are disabled in student and parent accounts.

PATs will continue this week for our Grade 9 students. We wish students well as they demonstrate their learning in Province wide assessments. These standardized tests reflect the essentials that all Alberta students are expected to achieve, regardless of school choice or location.  Grade 7 and 8 students will continue learning in their regular classes:

Wednesday June 12: PAT: ELA Part B (9-10:15 am, max time – 11:30 am)

Thursday June 13:  PAT: Math Part A (9-9:30 am, max time – 10 am)

Thank you to School Council for hosting a petting zoo on Thursday at lunch.  This is a joint project with JDHS.  An optional ice cream truck is on site for students.

Tuesday June 11 is the National Day of Reconciliation. Our Grade 7 and 8 students will engage in learning activities centered around indigenous ways of knowing for all classes while Grade 9s will focus on PAT preparation in HUM and SMATH (the Grade 9 day for learning is Monday June 24). Signs are posted in the school to support the schedule below – families are encouraged to look at their child’s homeroom for clarity. Attendance will be recorded for the classes below. The event has been a huge undertaking, with organization led by Ms. Bethany, Indigenous Education Strategist. This day was made possible by a $5,000 Education Matters grant.

IW of K: Indigenous Ways of Knowing Session with an Elder or Knowledge Keeper (Grade 7 & 8); Grade 9 – session led by a Mustang teacher.

Athletics Update:

Mr. Jones (sdjones@cbe.ab.ca)

Track and Field

  • Our track meeting is fast approaching -- Monday June 17
  • Teams have been selected and students notified.
  • There will be a mandatory meeting on Monday at lunch in the gym for all Track and Field Athletes. Paperwork will be handed out to students.
  • While there are buses booked, the problem is some of the events begin before the bus company can get us to the track. This means we will ask for athletes with early track events (students will be informed at Monday’s meeting) to arrange rides to Foothills Athletic Park.
  • Please refer to the SJAM Athletic Center for updated schedules as coaches are trying to get their final measurements and times completed to finalize the team this week.

Thermopylae - Fit Club

Huge thanks to all athletes and teachers who took part in the Thermopylae 5K Mud Run. SJAM had one of the largest teams there and everyone competed with grit and determination. Thanks to all athletes and teachers who took part in our Fit Club over this 2023-24 year.

Mustang of the Week

We are excited to share Arthur M. (97) is our Mustang of the Week. As an active member of the SJAM Noobs Board Game Club and a participant in school dances, Arthur positively enhances the school environment. His teachers notice he supports small but significant measures like pushing in chairs after class. In the classroom, Arthur is creative, strives to understand and always produces high quality work to the best of his abilities. Congratulations Arthur!
