Week at a Glance Nov. 20-24 | Food Drive, Conferences, Indigenous Protocols, Mustang of the Week, Athletics,
Dear Mustang Families:
Please forward this weekly message to your child's personal email! We have also started posting these messages on our website.
We have partnered with EducationMatters for our Food Drive Campaign again this year to support SJAM families in need. This food drive is seasonal and will run from November 15 to December 11, 2023. Donations can be completed online through the link below provided by EducationMatters. All donations will be turned into gift cards and given to SJAM families in need. Once you click the link you will be taken to the webpage where a description and instructions will be shown on how to donate. Please share the website with family and friends should they want to support SJAM families. All donations over $20 will get a tax receipt.
In addition, students are encouraged, if they are able, to bring non-perishable food items to school as donations. These will be collected by homeroom SMATH teachers.
For any SJAM families who need support, please contact Mrs. Billeck at mibilleck@cbe.ab.ca. Thank you for supporting SJAM families.

Gentle Reminders
- Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences are this week. If you are struggling to make appointments, please email Mr. Rachid (morachid@cbe.ab.ca) and Ms. Hornby (mahornby@cbe.ab.ca) for support. There is no school for students on Friday to accommodate virtual interviews. Please use MyCBE to book conferences; a confirmation email will be sent out once you have booked (for Friday conferences, a link will be sent for the virtual meeting)
- It has come to our attention that students have been sharing lockers even though they each have one designated for them. It is important that students use their designated locker for safety reasons. Please remind your child to use their own locker and that they shouldn’t share their lock combination with any other students.
- Many students would benefit from a replenishment of school supplies. Please ask your child if they are out of pencils, pens, paper and other essential learning tools.
- Library books are past due. Please remind your child to return or renew books.
- Excessive use of cell phones to access social media is linked to aggression, depression and anxiety amongst youth, say Canadian researchers. Please see article: Smartphone Brain
Indigenous Education Update
Ms. Bethany (bjbalis@cbe.ab.ca)
Oki, Tansi, Danit'ada, Umba-watich, Tawnshi, Bonjour, Hello
Following Maatoomsii’Pookaiks on November 9, some valuable conversation surrounding the ongoing protocols present at SJAM have arisen. We are seeking to include family and student voice to demonstrate respect for the people and communities we serve.
To begin developing practices that will live on at the school for student wellbeing, we are gathering family feedback on how to create a Smudge Protocol in a good way. If parents wish to share their thoughts, please reach out to Ms. Bethany at bjbalis@cbe.ab.ca
