Week at a Glance Oct. 2-6

Dear Mustang Families:

On Monday October 2, your child will have their photo taken in the school library. This link has great tips for school photos. These images are wonderful lifelong memories.

As the weather grows colder, students are reminded to begin dressing warmer for outdoor lunches. Parents are gently reminded to use the drop off zone as it was intended to create a safe space to drop off every student; our bus zone was created for this purpose. Our front doors open at 8:00 am.

With 10% of the school year completed, your children are beginning to settle into their learning environments. Teachers strive to equip your children with essential skills in literacy, math and well-being. Research is showing the impact of the pandemic is likely still impacting your child’s education. How can you support at home? 12 Things You Could Be Doing at Home to Support Your Child's Learning at School. What would you add? Trips to the Calgary Public library are free; creating ‘cell phone/video free’ time periods would generate time for the ideas in this article.

Free Well Being Courses for Parents and Students:

  • ADHD and Wellness for Children sessions:  See flyer under Resources
  • Y Mind is a FREE 7-week mental wellness program for teenagers (13-18 years old). The program aims to support and provide resources for teenagers experiencing mild to moderate levels of stress and/or anxiety.

Indigenous Education Update

Ms. Bethany (bjbalis@cbe.ab.ca)

Oki, Tansi, Danit'ada, Umba-watich, Tawnshi, Bonjour, Hello

Thank you to all families who joined the CBE, CCSD and City of Calgary National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events, as well as the other community events throughout Calgary. The continued message of bravery and connection amongst all people was moving. This was after teachers engaged students in a week of learning, while our community remains committed to our yearly goal contained in the TRC Commitment.

The September update on our progress towards our TRC Commitment will be shared at our October Parent Council Meeting.

Aaayyy, Hiy Hiy, Siyisgaas, Mîkwec, Merci, Thank you.

Leadership Update

Ms. Hudson and Ms. Ralph (nahudson@cbe.ab.ca and ledawson@cbe.ab.ca

We can’t believe that October is already here! This month, we are looking forward to our first pep rally and the second dance of the year. Stay tuned for more details.

Athletics Update

Mr. Jones (sdjones@cbe.ab.ca

Congratulations to our cross-country running team for another significant effort this past week at Confederation Park and for a successful season overall. Thanks for encouraging your child to take a healthy risk and joining our athletic program this fall. You should all be proud.  Big thanks to Mr. Marinucci, Ms. McLellan, Ms. Saker and of course Mr. Shea for volunteering their time to work with our amazing group of athletes. Without them, no competition occurs.

We are in mid-season with our soccer season as the playoffs are only two weeks away. Girls are hosting this Wednesday with the boys hosting Thursday. Both games are a 4:30 start time.

Basketball teams are selected with our first league games starting this week. Jr Boys play at Arbour Lake on Monday while the Sr Girls play Twelve Mile Coulee on Thursday. Jr Girls and Sr Boys have a bye week. Please note that if students are planning to attend other schools to cheer on our Mustangs, they must do so with an adult. Thanks in advance for being respectful of other school’s expectations. SJAM will be asking the same for all our guests throughout the season.

Fit-Club: Monday after school on the stage.
