Week at a Glance Oct. 30 - Nov. 3 | Well-being, PATs, Indigenous Support, Halloween Dance, Basketball

Dear Mustang Families:

Please forward this weekly message to your child's personal email! We have also started posting these messages on our website.

Well-being is a precondition for student achievement. Students need to be well to succeed. Currently, students face a wide range of mental health challenges, including stress, anxiety, and depression. This trend is alarming and requires our attention. The CBE invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health. Full details at this link. Reminders will be sent to families throughout the school year. The first session on vaping is on November 16th.

Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) are administered annually to all Alberta students in grades 6 and 9. PATs help:

  • determine if students are learning what they are expected to learn
  • report to Albertans how well students have achieved provincial standards at given points in their schooling
  • assist schools, authorities and the province in monitoring and improving student learning

PAT results from Grade 6 were sent home with Grade 7 learners this week. Please ask your child to review the results. The PATs are not used for formal grades, offering information on areas of strength and opportunities for further learning.

If you are concerned about your child’s progress in Grade 7, 8 and 9, we invite you to explore these resources AND reach out to your child’s teachers.

The Middle Years are pivotal as we prepare your children for high school completion and beyond. In partnership with families, we can support your child.
