Welcome Mustang Families:
Welcome to a brand-new school year! As we open the doors to another exciting chapter, we are filled with excitement, optimism, and a deep sense of community. Whether you’re returning or joining us for the first time, we’re thrilled to have you as part of our Mustang family. This year promises new opportunities for learning, growth, and connection—and we look forward to embarking on this school year together.
To support our families, you can review our detailed SJAM Back to School Newsletter. Every Sunday at noon, we reach out to families for details on the upcoming week. On Sunday August 31, more specific information about the opening week will be shared.
The Main Office opens on Wednesday August 27 at 9:00 am. Given teachers will be in meetings, you may want to make an appointment if you want to meet with an Administrator or a teacher: SJAM Staff List
Our first day for students will be Tuesday September 2:
Grade 7s: 8:13 – 1:15 pm (dietary friendly lunch provided)
Grade 8 and 9: 2:00 – 3:00 pm
ALP and PLP: 8:13 – 2:51 pm (dietary friendly lunch provided)
All students will have their name posted on homeroom lists that will be outside (weather permitting) and in the front foyer. We will begin with a ‘Welcome Assembly’ in the Main Gym followed by homeroom activities. A hard copy of semester 1 and semester 2 classes will be provided to all students.
If your child is planning on trying out for one of our sports teams, it would be helpful to review the Mustang Athletic Code of Conduct.
If your child requires a Student Health Plan, you can complete and submit it to the main office. This form must be:
- Completed if a physical or medical condition may affect your child’s attendance at school;
- Completed if medication is to be taken at school; and
- Reviewed and updated annually or sooner if there is a change to your child’s heath concern.
If your child is going to be absent from the school during the school start up in early September, please email Ms. Hornby (Principal) (mahornby@cbe.ab.ca) along with the reason why. Alberta Education expects schools to track and share this information with them. Regular school attendance is an important predicator of success in school.
In 2024–25, our school community centered its efforts on building empathy. In 2025-26, we are deepening that commitment by moving from understanding to action—embracing empathy through intentional acts of compassion. Academic research shows that welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environments flourish when students and staff not only reflect on their actions but also engage meaningfully in compassionate behavior. We will continue to share more in the weeks ahead.
