Two Weeks at a Glance Nov. 6-17 | MyCBE, Conferences, Digital Citizenship Plan, Gratitude to School Council, Overdue Books, Indigenous Professional Learning, Mustang of the Week, Athletics
Note: There will not be a weekly update on November 12 due to our Fall Break.
Dear Mustang Families:
Please forward this weekly message to your child's personal email! We have also started posting these messages on our website.
Families are encouraged to log into MyCBE to review their child’s current academic progress. Your child should know how to look up grades. If you are having problems with your MyCBE account, please email Ms. Reynolds at sareynolds@cbe.ab.ca. If you are having issues seeing your child’s grade(s), please reach out to your child’s teachers through the Staff List
Adding the ‘PowerSchool’ app to your phone is a convenient way to receive attendance notifications instantaneously as the teacher updates their records every class. Note: if your child shares the teacher failed to change their attendance from an absence to a late, this may be incorrect. If a student is late, teachers revise attendance, and record the number of minutes a student is late. Errors sometimes do happen. Families are encouraged to reach out to teachers if their child feels mistakes are taking place. The app also allows families to review academic progress.
Parent/Guardian, Student and Teacher Conferences: Most of our parent/guardian, student and teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, November 23 (in-person) and Friday, November 24 (online). A detailed email outlining how to sign-up will be sent on Wednesday November 8.
The annual update to our Digital Citizenship Plan 2023-24 has been completed. Mr. Rachid reached out to students, parents and staff for this year’s additions. “The number one priority is the promotion of a safe, welcoming, caring and respectful school learning community: Together We Make a Difference” is a central theme of the plan.
Gratitude is extended to School Council for approving many expenditures. These items will enhance the learning environment for 100% of our learners:
- Drama: Stage lights and Stage Curtains
- Foods: Numerous kitchen appliances
- Art: Sketch books
- Band: Sheet Music
- Computer supports: RAZ Kids, Mathletics, Headsets
- SMATH: science lab equipment
- Literacy Games
- Student Regulation: exercise bikes, regulation toys, lamps - softer light in classrooms
- PE: Steppingstones Obstacle Course, Canopy for outdoor sporting events
Families are encouraged to send overdue library books back with their children. If books are lost, we will need to add the cost of replacing the book to the student’s PowerSchool account. If you would like to know if your child is impacted, please reach out to Ms. Campbell (jmcampbell@cbe.ab.ca).
Once again, our lost and found is overflowing with clothing, coats, water bottles, hats, lunch bags, binders, house keys, eye glasses, a phone, (6 from last year!), etc. Please remind your child to come and check for any items they may be missing. Unclaimed items will be donated or recycled. This will happen before the winter break; we will let you know when.

Thank you to all families and support within the Community for continuing to engage with our staff and students to share their knowledge, as well as build our relationship. We look forward to continuing learning from you and expanding the SJAM community.

Mustang of the Week
Students have nominated Desiree C. (73) as our Mustang of the Week. In the classroom, Desiree consistently tries her best, supports her peers generating positive learning dynamics in group projects and always puts school first. She is often the first to volunteer in service to the school, while stepping up to try learning new things in our Clubs. Your leadership is valued, Desiree!
Athletics Update
Mr. Jones (sdjones@cbe.ab.ca)
Congratulations to the Sr Girls and Sr Boys basketball teams for their efforts at the annual Clarence Sansom basketball tournament. The boys were successful at winning the consolation final on Saturday afternoon. Going undefeated in the tournament, the Sr Girls took home the championship banner, winning by a convincing margin in the final game against CNG school. Great job girls!
We will be hosting Jr Boys basketball this week on Monday November 6. SJAM students are welcome; their attendance for the day is verified at the door. Students from other schools must be accompanied by an adult. Go MUSTANGS!
As a result of hosting/setting up on Monday, FITCLUB will be cancelled. Thanks for your understanding.
